Health officials warn about possible measles exposure at LAX, airport hotel

Los Angeles County health officials are alerting the public to a possible measles exposure at Los Angeles International Airport and a nearby airport hotel. The case involves a traveler who was infectious while passing through the area. The individual visited several locations on specific dates, prompting the warning.

The infected traveler was at LAX Terminal 4 on the afternoon of March 12, and also stayed at a hotel near the airport on the same day. Health officials say anyone who was at these locations during those times may have been exposed. Measles is highly contagious and can linger in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves a space.

Symptoms typically appear seven to 21 days after exposure and include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a distinctive rash. Officials urge anyone who may have been exposed to check their vaccination records and monitor for symptoms. Unvaccinated individuals are at the highest risk. Those who develop symptoms should call a healthcare provider before visiting a clinic to avoid spreading the virus further. The county is working to identify and notify close contacts of the traveler.
