DURHAM and CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In a groundbreaking initiative, UNC Health and Duke Health are collaborating to establish North Carolina's first freestanding children's hospital. This innovative project aims to enhance pediatric healthcare across the state and is set to feature a comprehensive health system dedicated solely to the needs of children.
Today, the two esteemed institutions took a significant step forward by filing articles of incorporation with the State of North Carolina to create NC Children’s, a private, tax-exempt organization. The ambitious plans for NC Children’s include a 500-bed hospital specifically designed for pediatric care, alongside an outpatient care center and a dedicated behavioral health center for children.
This partnership reflects a commitment to improving health outcomes for children and families in the region, addressing the growing demand for specialized pediatric services. The establishment of NC Children’s is poised to transform the landscape of children's healthcare in North Carolina, offering a focused approach to meet the unique medical needs of younger patients.
