Emails obtained by The Trentonian have exposed a growing rodent infestation inside the Trenton Health Department facility, with staff reporting mouse droppings on their desks, scattered across paperwork, and left in other work areas. The correspondence, dated from early May, shows mounting frustration among employees who say the problem has been ignored for weeks.
One email described finding feces on top of important documents and personal belongings. Another message from a staff member expressed disgust at having to clean up after the pests before starting the workday. The emails suggest that workers have repeatedly flagged the issue to building management, but little has been done to address the source of the infestation.
The health department is responsible for enforcing sanitation codes across the city, making the situation particularly ironic for those who work there. Employees have questioned how they can properly inspect restaurants and other public spaces for vermin when their own building is not being maintained to the same standard.
City officials have not yet issued a formal statement on the matter. However, the emails indicate that some workers are considering filing formal complaints with the city's human resources department if the problem is not resolved soon. The rodent issue has also raised concerns about potential health risks for both staff and members of the public who visit the facility for services.
