The Michigan Mental Health Diversion Council, in partnership with the Center for Behavioral Health and Justice, has announced its 2026 Summit. The event is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, running from 9 a.m. to noon. This year's theme is "A Decade of Progress: Advancing Diversion and Crisis Response in Michigan Counties."
Organizers say the summit will highlight ten years of work in redirecting individuals with mental health needs away from the criminal justice system and toward community-based care. The focus will be on county-level strategies that have improved crisis response across Michigan. Attendees can expect discussions on best practices, data-driven outcomes, and collaborative models that have emerged over the past decade.
Registration is now open for the virtual gathering. The summit aims to bring together law enforcement, mental health professionals, court officials, and community advocates. Participants will explore how diversion programs have evolved and what steps remain to expand access to treatment instead of incarceration. The event is free, but advance sign-up is required to receive the access link.
