O'Neill Institute Announces New Leadership and Two New Centers, Ushering in a Dynamic New Era for Health Law

The O'Neill Institute has announced a significant expansion of its leadership team and research scope, marking what officials describe as a dynamic new chapter for health law. Bert Brandenburg joins the organization as Executive Director, while Liz Stokes steps in as Managing Director. The appointments come alongside the launch of two new centers, one focused on artificial intelligence and another dedicated to women's health.

The institute, based in Washington, D.C., revealed the changes on October 2, 2026. Leaders said the additions reflect a growing need to address complex intersections between technology, health policy, and equity. The AI center will examine how automated systems affect patient care, privacy, and regulatory oversight. The women's health center will concentrate on access to care, reproductive rights, and research gaps that have historically received less attention.

Brandenburg brings extensive experience in law and public policy to his new role. Stokes has a background in health administration and program development. Together, they are expected to guide the institute through a period of growth and adaptation.

Staff members described the announcement as a turning point. The institute plans to expand partnerships with academic institutions, advocacy groups, and government agencies in the coming months. Additional programming and research initiatives are expected to follow.
