Public health officials have issued a warning regarding a possible measles exposure at Union Station. According to the advisory, individuals who visited the transit hub between 8 a.m. and noon on Saturday may have been exposed to the virus. Those affected are being asked to monitor themselves for symptoms through Oct. 3.

Measles is a highly contagious respiratory illness that can spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The virus can remain active in the air for up to two hours, which makes enclosed public spaces like train stations particularly risky. Early symptoms typically include fever, cough, runny nose, and red or watery eyes. A rash usually appears a few days later, starting on the face and spreading downward.

Health officials are urging anyone who was at Union Station during that window to check their vaccination status. People who have received two doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine are generally considered protected. Those who are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated, or have weakened immune systems face a higher risk. Anyone who develops symptoms should contact a healthcare provider before visiting a clinic or hospital to avoid exposing others in waiting rooms.
