Kevin Tabb will step down as Chief Executive Officer of Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) next year, concluding a tenure that has spanned over fifteen years. The health system announced the planned leadership transition on Wednesday.
Tabb has been a central figure in the region's healthcare landscape, first as CEO of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and then as the architect and leader of the 2019 merger that created the expansive Beth Israel Lahey Health system. Under his guidance, BILH grew into one of Massachusetts' largest integrated healthcare networks, encompassing academic medical centers, community hospitals, and primary care practices.
The board of directors has initiated a comprehensive national search to identify the system's next CEO. Tabb has agreed to remain in his role until a successor is appointed and to assist with the transition to ensure continuity. In a statement, Tabb expressed pride in the organization's achievements and its dedicated workforce, which provides care for millions of patients across Eastern Massachusetts.
Board leadership praised Tabb's visionary leadership, noting his pivotal role in uniting several organizations into a cohesive system focused on high-quality, community-based care. His departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the major healthcare provider as it prepares for its next phase of growth and service.
