Baptist Health to Host Series of Blood Drives

Baptist Health has announced a schedule of upcoming blood drives aimed at addressing a critical shortage in the regional blood supply. The health system is urging community members to step forward and donate, noting that current reserves have fallen to levels that could affect patient care.

Donors can give blood at several locations over the coming weeks. Each drive will follow standard safety and screening procedures, and appointments are encouraged though walk-ins will be accepted when space allows. The process typically takes about an hour from check-in to recovery.

Blood donations are used for surgeries, cancer treatment, trauma care, and chronic conditions such as sickle cell disease. Because blood has a limited shelf life, regular donations are needed to keep hospitals stocked. A single donation can help multiple patients.

Eligible donors generally need to be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. Those who have recently traveled or taken certain medications should check ahead for specific guidelines.
